Counterfeit provision. Designed to intercept the real thing. The fine print in the terms and conditions that puts the poor into a state of debt and guilt for losing their own money through someone else's process who gave them some money to help with their losses. The help to help making things worse made me see that there's a design. Because this can't be a one-off thing. This leak is too big to be uncommon.

You don't know the full cost at entry. You're shown the first layer. You commit. Then the next layer appears — not disclosed at entry, behind the first commitment. To get what you already paid for, you have to pay again.
No one corrects you. That's the specific cruelty. The people running it know you're miscalculating. They know the next layer is coming and you don't. Correction would break the architecture. So they don't correct it.
The guilt transfer is load-bearing. The gift becomes a debt instrument. The person who was supposed to be helped ends up feeling responsible for the losses of the person who extracted from them. Even though the loss was built into the architecture from the beginning.

The Infrastructure That Knew
What Victor named from personal experience has a documented institutional parallel. Federal court proceedings established the following record.
Visa was alerted to reported illicit content on MindGeek's sites — Pornhub's parent company — before December 2020. Despite documented warnings from anti-sex trafficking advocates, Visa did not stop its services until the New York Times piece forced public exposure.
A federal judge ruled in July 2022 that Visa knew MindGeek's websites were teeming with monetized child pornography and that there was a criminal agreement to financially benefit from it — inferred from Visa's decision to continue recognizing MindGeek as a merchant despite knowing what was being monetized.
