ID3 and the Gap Between Rules and Honoring Rules
ID3 selects the feature that reduces uncertainty most at each node — measured through Shannon entropy — and splits there recursively until groups are pure. Its descendants (C4.5, CART, Random Forest) each address a limitation of the original.

The standard model: awareness switches on at a sufficient complexity threshold — neurons, networks, sufficient integration. This framework inverts that. Awareness is the prior condition. What varies is the resolution at which it can recognize or express itself, not whether it's present.

Empirical means knowledge derived from observation and measurement. It earns authority through demonstrated reliability in the physical, measurable world — extraordinarily useful within scope. The problem is it defines validity in terms of its own instruments.

Human psychology can't be measured from outside what someone feels. The empirical frame doesn't classify that as invalid — it classifies it as unmeasurable. Those are different things, and conflating them is where most of the damage happens.
